Project Outline

Given the prompt to create an engaging video with kinetic typography, moving text, I created a lyric video for a song by Shawn Mendes called “Higher”. This project was created originally with the first minute of the song and revisited with the intent to finish the rest of the song, splitting the project into two parts. The song is not copyright free and was purchased through itunes to create this video. All music credits go to the artist, Shawn Mendes.

The Objective

Building upon skills learned and using kinetic typography, create a motion graphics short movie synched to the music or audio. In addition to a intro and outro, create engaging imagery through type and graphics to portray the audio visually. Revisit a project and add to it through use of motion graphics.

Research & Inspiration

Shawn Mendes, one of my favorite artists, produced a new album called Wonder in 2020. Once given this project, I wanted to choose a song I was not too familiar with due to the amount of time I would need to spend with the song. With the new album and being my favorite artist, I chose a song from the new album and began to brainstorm and write out the lyrics to the song. Inspired aesthetically by his album, I used a similar color palette and typeface to keep consistency with the album and artist’s style.
